Thanksgiving

Choosing where to spend Thanksgiving Day is not always easy.  It often requires travel.  It may require you to split your time between 2 or more houses.  For my family, we will be traveling to Tallahassee to spend the holiday with my wife’s grandmother.

Since 2005, this decision has been easy for hundreds of people who live in the Inwood Community.  As they approach Thanksgiving day, they know that they will eat their Thanksgiving Dinner at Westwood Middle School.  Next week will be the 10th Free Community Thanksgiving Dinner that we have provided at Westwood Middle School.

This dinner would not be possible without the unique partnership between our church and Westwood Middle School.  This year is no exception.  This year, we have unprecedented support from the administration at the school.  They recognize the value of this event in the lives of their students and the surrounding community.  Because of this incredible support, we are anticipating a large turnout for this dinner.

Will you consider helping us with this dinner?

Here are some specific ways you can help:

  • Pray.  Pray that this simple act of providing food would communicate to an entire community that Jesus loves them.
  • Cook.  We need fully-cooked turkeys and homemade desserts.  We will take care of providing all of the other food. The last count I heard was that we still need roughly 15-20 fully cooked turkeys.  Please bring your fully-cooked turkey (with the meat still on the bone) and desserts to our FLC on Wednesday, 11/26, between 5-7pm.
  • Serve.  Go to Westwood (link to map) on Thanksgiving Day and help serve.  The meal will be served from 11:30am to 1:30pm.   You can come anytime during that time and help serve.
  • Give.  Monetary contributions will be used to purchase green beans, mashed potatoes, drinks, etc.  Contributions can be made payable to FBC and should be marked “Thanksgiving Dinner.”

I encourage you to take a minute today and consider how you might be able to help someone else have a Happy Thanksgiving!

Stephen
