Mission Conference 2015

Last year I wrote an ‘epic’ article in which I listed 5 Reasons Why You Must Attend Our Mission Conference.  Today I would like to give you the sequel to that post.  Here are 5 Excellent Reasons to Skip our Mission Conference.

You should skip our Mission Conference IF:

  1. The plight of souls in foreign lands does not move you.  During this conference you will be moved when you learn about unbelievers in Haiti, Trinidad & Tobago, and Brazil.  You will learn about the grip Satan has in these countries.  You will see intense poverty and lack of opportunity.  You will be reminded that “People are dying and going to Hell today.”  If none of this moves you, I encourage you to skip our conference.
  2. Making sacrifices for the sake of the Gospel is foolishness to you.  Throughout this weekend, you will hear from individuals who have made incredible sacrifices in order to take a message to a foreign land.  Their spouses and children have had to sacrifice.  Their lives are filled with uncertainty and insecurity.  Yet, they have made these sacrifices because the message they carry is life-changing.  If you believe that their sacrifices are foolish and miss-guided, then I encourage you to skip our conference.  I am afraid you will find the entire weekend to be foolish.
  3. Your Bible is not relevant to today.  Our entire conference centers on the theme that the Word of God does not change.  It is infallible and inerrant.  It is how God speaks to us today.  Yet, there are many today who believe that the Bible has simply lost its effectiveness.  They believe that our world has changed and so the Bible needs to change as well.  If this is you, then I encourage you to skip our conference because our entire conference is centered around a conviction that you do not share.
  4. Fellowshipping with other Christians irks you.  Our conference has several times built in for us to fellowship with one another.  These times allow us to encourage one another and to build relationships.  They allow us to begin new relationships with our brothers and sisters in Christ.  Perhaps you do not like times like this.  Perhaps you do not like it when someone gives you a hug and tells you “I am praying for you” or “It is so good to see you.”  If these things irk you, then I encourage you to skip our conference.  We would not want to be irksome to you.
  5. You spiritual commitment begins AND ENDS on Sunday morning.  Our conference starts tonight.  Yes – Friday night.  It continues tomorrow – Saturday morning.  It does not end until Sunday evening.  For too many people, church is on Sunday morning from 10:30am – 11:50am.  Anything that falls outside that time frame is just inconvenient and unnecessary.  Perhaps this is you.  I will admit, there are many wonderful things that I could do tonight and tomorrow morning.  But, I could also probably do them next weekend.  If you are already overwhelmed by your ‘Sunday morning only’ commitment, then I encourage you to skip our conference.  We would not want to you to be over-committed.

Well, there you have it – 5 Excellent Reasons to Skip Our Mission Conference.  Honestly, I sincerely hope that none of these reasons compel you to actually skip our conference.

See you tonight!

Stephen
